Herbal Actions: Nervine, hypnotic, antispasmodic, carminative, hypotensive, and emmenagogue.
Traditional Uses: Valerian has mainly been used for anxiety, nervous sleeplessness, and bodily tension. Such as muscle cramping and indigestion. A good remedy to assist with sleep. As it does not affect needed REM phases.
I have used Valerian extensively over the years. I have used it to help my relax. Both physically and mentally. I have found it useful in helping me to sleep. And in smaller doses, to help me stay calm throughout the day. Another thing valerian is known for is its pungent fragrance. When I first began growing the plant. I was surprised to find out that the fresh root tasted sweet!
I use Valerian in both my Anxi – Ahh – Tea and Deep Calm Night blends. You can purchase them here!
